We manage our own plot of ancient woodland, Broome Wood, for materials and biodiversity. It is a living, breathing and thriving example of how we believe wooded land should be used.
The woodland in autumn frees itself from the vigorous growth of summer. The dense overhead leaf canopy crisps and falls; plants in the understory no longer thrust upwards to the light.
Our hazel coppice becomes meditative in readiness for the hibernation of winter. We look ahead to the harvest and take time to clean and sharpen our axes and billhooks.
