Designing for a New Chapter: Our Collaboration with People Care Planet Care
When we were invited to design and make the furniture for People Care Planet Care (formerly known as Haeckels)and their new series of UK retail pop-ups, we saw an opportunity to help shape a deeply thoughtful, sustainable retail experience — one that reflects both their ethos and ours.
The result is a modular concept built around a circular formation: a series of bespoke furniture units that can be reconfigured to suit each location while maintaining a clear, cohesive identity. Whether compact or expansive, the system creates a welcoming, immersive environment that adapts gracefully to its setting.
We crafted each piece from solid British-grown sycamore — a native, underused hardwood with a soft, pale character and low environmental impact. As always, our focus was on local, regenerative materials that speak to both sustainability and beauty.
A defining feature of the project is the surface treatment we developed in close collaboration with the People Care Planet Care team — a chalky, textured finish inspired by the iconic cliffs of Margate. This material innovation doesn’t just mimic geology; it reimagines it. By capturing the spirit of Margate’s natural landscape, we’ve rooted this design in place — creating not just surfaces, but stories.
This modular retail concept doesn’t simply display products — it embodies a philosophy that material innovation can honour both place and planet. By reinterpreting Margate’s geological identity, we’ve created a space where visitors connect with something authentic and alive. The environment becomes part of the narrative, inviting people to engage with the brand through texture, form, and a sense of place.
For us, this collaboration with People Care Planet Care represents what’s possible when design, craft, and purpose come together. The first pop-up opens in London this May, with more locations to follow across the UK throughout the summer.
