Treehouse

Designed and made by our studio and workshop this is a subtle structure, made to complement a grand atlas cedar and become a space for play and adventure. The entire structure is built onto two cantilevered sweet chestnut beams and is anchored onto the tree at only four points (we wanted as few penetrations into the tree as possible).

The internal frame of the treehouse is made from English ash with pegged mortice and tenons drawing inspiration from the flexibility and strength of the medieval buildings Seb grew up in and around throughout his childhood. This frame is clad in scorched larch (to create the external walls) and cleft chestnut shakes (on the roof). A coppiced chestnut balustrade completes the external handrail.
