Landrace: wild new work presented by Sarah Myerscough Gallery

A new body of work designed and made by Sebastian is presented exclusively in collaboration with Sarah Myerscough as part of the gallery’s new show CROP.

Sebastian’s thatched bread baskets, named Landrace, are constructed by hand from heritage wheat, as opposed to chemically grown, systematically selected wheat that leaves our fields bereft of wildlife.

Using varied landrace strains of this grass, to which we owe our settled existence, Sebastian has made a series of objects that reflect a more harmonious relationship between the domesticated and non-domesticated worlds; layered, diverse and wild. This collection facilitates breaking bread; a symbol of civilisation and a chance to sit around the table and talk about our fields.

These objects will be on display at CROP, an exhibition inspired by how nature informs artist-designer practices through ecological concerns.

Visit CROP at the Sarah Myerscough Gallery from Friday 7 November 2019 – Friday Jan 31 2020, 10:00 – 18:00, 1 White Hart Lane, London, SW13 0PX
