Crafted at Powdermills
“Guests will wake up in a bed made from nearby woodlands.”
Sebastian Cox were delighted to collaborate with the life-friendly hotel series Crafted on their newly opened retreat Crafted at Powdermills. For this project, we milled, dried and made the furniture for the 55 guest suites from the surrounding landscape.
Tucked away in meandering hills and ancient woodland in East Sussex, Crafted at Powdermills is a place comprehensively designed inside and out for complete reset; shaped not just by function but by the surrounding landscape too. This nature-inspired design has earned it The Sunday Times’ South East England Hotel of the Year.
Over a year and a half period, we concurrently developed a plan to return nature to the 75 acre estate which will unfold over years. This includes meadow and woodland management, beaver mimicry, tree veteranisation and conservation grazing. We hope to attract red-listed species like nightingales and dormice back to the land over the coming years. Sebastian also leads monthly walking tours and trail runs to help communicate this regenerative work to guests and members.
