Out of the Dark and into the woods: collaboration revealed

Earlier this year we told you we had something up our sleeves, in collaboration with Out of the Dark. We may have been coy then but now we’re able to share all the juicy details.

I’m sure you’ll have heard of Out Of The Dark. If not, I think you would like to know about them. They welcome young people into their workshop and give them the opportunity to learn skills in furniture restoration, which they apply to unwanted furniture, giving them a modern saleable product. The sales of their brightly painted furniture feed in to the business side of the charity, which puts earned money into the pockets of the young people. It’s a really simple idea with big challenges, brilliantly executed by Jay & Jade Blades, husband and wife founders.

Each stool is hand made by Out of the Dark’s creative youngsters from offcuts, donated by Benchmark, and the coppiced hazel we harvested earlier this year. Each stool is finished in Out of the Dark’s vibrant signature style using Mylands of London signature paint collection.

Tomorrow, the Sebastian Cox Furniture team will be vising the Out of the Dark workshop in High Wycombe to put the finishing touches to our stools, so keep your eyes peeled on for beautiful, bright, colourful updates. In the meantime, watch our film (made by the talented Kai Lau) and prepare to visit the team and pick your own stool at Decorex, 21st – 24th September, Syon Park, London.
